Feet Assessment Video Instructions

Please read the instructions below on how to make a video your practitioner will use to assess movement within each foot. Please watch the following video for a demonstration of the movement sequence you will film in four different orientations to the camera.

 

Setup:

1. Please film this video on a hard floor or low pile carpet; it is very difficult to see the intricate motions in your foot joints on a high pile carpet.
2. Place dots or small pieces of masking tape on your shins just above the ankle (see video above for placement).
3. Stand facing the camera. For this video it is best if camera is positioned so that is captures a close-up view of your lower legs from your feet to just above your knees.
4. If any movement causes discomfort, make a note and do not perform that movement.
5. Do not rush any of the movements described below; slower is better!

Movement Sequence (please make sure to watch this video first):

1. Start facing the camera. Imagine you are standing on a clock face, and your feet are pointing to 12 o’clock.
2. Turn your head, shoulders, ribcage, and pelvis to the right. Allow the rotation to go all the way to the ankles and feet. Allow the feet to respond. Repeat to the left. Do right and left again one more time each.
3. Repeat step 2, but this time keep the big toe balls, little toe balls and heel bones grounded. You still want to rotate as far as you can without the six points of contact (three on each foot) lifting. You should feel the rotation go all the way to your feet/ankles.
4. Maintaining contact with the big toe ball, lift the right big toe as high as you can. Use whatever strategy you want to lift the toe as high as possible, including lifting all your toes; however, ensure that your big toe ball does not lift. Repeat on the left. Do right and left again one more time each.
5. Turn your feet and body to face 1 o’clock. Repeat steps 2-4.
6. Turn your feet and body to face 11 o’clock. Repeat steps 2-4.
7. Turn your back to the camera. Repeat steps 2-4.
8. Share the video using WhatsApp. Please make sure it is very clear from whom we are receiving the video!!!
